The Newport Regatta is typically the 2nd weekend in July (13-15 this year).

Is the Alter Cup now part of the schedule? How about the eliminations? There are alot of those. I assume we do _not_ need to avoid conflicts with all the eliminations.

Jim,
The Alter Cup is an event that one must qualify at one of the ten area eliminations, represent a designated class, or petition into. A total of 20 teams will eventiually compete in the 2003 Alter Cup. The Alter Cup can not be part of our class schedule, as it is an "invitational only event". The Javelin 2 F-18HT is the boat being used by all those invited.
The Alter Cup Area Eliminations are diffferent. Each of these events is used to qualify sailors from their respective areas for the Alter Cup. We should, out of respect for US Sailing, not schedule events in those areas during the same dates. For instance, we would not have an event in Del Ray Beach, if the Area D Elimination are taking place at the same time. However, I see no harm in scheduling a Newport event while the Area Ds are taking place in Florida.
I hope this clears this issue up for you.
Sail Fast and Light,

The idea of approaching college sailing programs and paying them to host one of our events has promise. I recommend St Mary's in Maryland or ODU in Norfolk, Virginia.
Anyone have some contacts?
