David- I am dying to here the big news, however a telephone call to W.F. got me nowhere! He is really tight lipped about this one. I will throw up some guesses and see if any stick to the wall- 1-New F-18HT manufacturer/design to be announced 2-Another world class sailor has bought a F-18HT 3-Use of the F-18HT in the Worrell 1000 or Alter Cup 4-Details of the 2002 North Americans for the F-18HT 5-Details of a F-18HT World Championships in the USA 6-Another child for W.F. and Kelly? 7-Another Class trailer, as the current one is overbooked 8- ? Anyone else have any ideas? Fred E. Glaubke

David and Fred and anyone else who is out there
All I will say is if there is any news to come in May then it will be published on this site first. We will have ANY breaking news concerning the F18HT class published BEFORE anyone else and in some cases before there is any statement has been made by those involved.
What I will say is there are several things going on at this time including new boats, events and efforts to promote the class. The reason for the lack of news is that we are not going to make unfounded hyped up statements that cannot be supported. This is something the class members have all worked at, only hard facts that can be supported will be published on the site.

The rigging photos will be up in the next day or two at the latest. I just need to reformat the photos so the load faster and fit easily on a standard sized monitor.

Good policy Peter.
Without gossip or unfounded claims, can you give me any info on the 2003 Worlds?

I cannot give anymore information on the Worlds as I do not have it. I do know that W.F was in contact with France and the Europeans are happy with the general location (FL). We need to look into locations and times before anything else can be done. It is still in the early stages so there is no news.
The more pressing issue is getting the first North Americans organized for later this year.
Dave sorry no hints.

On this year's N/A's, how do you guys feel about November 22-24, in Clearwater, Fl? (that's the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, which is on the 28th this year) There is going to be a big cat regatta there already, we can probably get our own start if we ask real nice, and the location is great! I think it would be much easier to jump in on an already existing regatta than to plan and run one on our own. Of course, if Randy will host our N/A's in Ft. Walton, I would go there. I was out sailing the HT for 2 hours, solo, today. Winds were 10-15, it was sporty to say the least. Raced a guy on a Nacra 5.5 Carbon Uni who was down from Michigan on vacation, we had a blast! I had set marks out for practice and he showed up so we went round and round, then just power reached across the lake and back. You guys should come down, it was about 88 today...the lake water is up to about 75. Take care. Tim USA 5

What about having the North Americans in the Keys, maybe Key West, during November or December?
Fort Walton Beach would make a super Worlds venue for next year.
May, huh, interesting timing??? I'll keep my guess to my self.

Fort Walton Beach has been mentioned as a possible site for the 2002 North Americans or the 2003 Worlds. What is the weather like there in December (NA time frame) and in March-April (World time frame)?
As for the BIG NEWS-does it have anything to do with the race previously known as the "Worrell Bros Coastwise Race"?

I would have to vote for Fort Walton Beach for either of the two events. Having sailed a lot out of Clearwater on Tornados I can tell you that the wind is not too good. I also feel that multi class regattas only work well when you use dissimilar classes. There is a reason why they race the keelboats with on the same course as the Tornados at the major events, if they raced the 49er the two classes would meet too often on the course. We have had great success racing A Cats at the Unlimited Regatta in RI on the same course as the International Canoes and Vanguard Vectors. I cannot remember having to wait until the other classes have finished to get another start and almost never meeting another class on the water something that cannot be said for multi cat regattas. Since this the 'big' event for 2002 then it does not make sense to compromise it by simply adding it to an existing regatta. The North Americans have to be a F18HT only event.
