Hi all!
For those of you who did not have the opportunity to participate in the 2002 North Americans in Key Largo, you missed a great event! Three days of 12-20 knt winds, flat water and great competition was enjoyed. Rick White and Mary Wells were great host and things went smoothly on the course and off.
What next? The a rough/tenative 2003 schedule was proposed at the Na's-
January 18-20 Tradewinds Regatta Key Largo
February ??? Possible Key Largo
March 1&2 Midwinters Regatta Pensacola, Fl
April 27&28 Hogsbreath 100 Florida Keys
May Delaware State Champ Rehoboth, De
June 21&22 Summer Sizzler Va Beach, Va
July Newport Regatta Newport, RI
August North Americans Newport, RI
August Cat Fight IV Michigan
September Annapolis Regatta Maryland
October ???????? Florida Panhand
November F-18HT World Cup Fort Walton Bch
December
These are some of the proposed regattas. At this point, only the Tradewinds, Midwinters, Summer Sizzler, and World Cup are "set in stone". The final schedule is up to class debate and suggestion, so let us know your thoughts.
In addition to this class schedule, preliminary work is underway on four "mini circuits" to be held at Newport, RI, Annapolis, Md, Fort Walton Bch/Pensacola, FL, and Key Largo, FL. These circuits would be timed to take place at the peak sailing periods for each area. The availability of charter boats at each "mini-circuit" location could be a great boost for our participation-more on this later. Hunt Stookey, Mark Schneider, Brian Lambert, Randy Smyth, Rick White, and myself will be working together to further explore this concept. Basically, the first circuit could take place in Newport, RI in July and August, the second in Annapolis in late August/September, the third in the Florida Panhandle during lOctober and November, and then the last at Key Largo from December through April. We beleive that this concept, combined with our class trailer system will be great for the continued growth of our class.
The Tradewinds Regatta is the next regatta on the proposed schedule. This event takes place January 17, 18, and 19th in Key Largo. Several class members are planning to attend (I count eight firm commitments to date and as many as nine "maybes"). This could be our biggest class event to date. I highly recommend this regatta and it is a great break from winter for most of us. Let me kow if you plan to attend.
That's enough for now.....
