The new North American Portsmouth Yardsticks have been just released. The new PN for the 18HT is 59.7 (previously 60.0). Then I won my bet: last year in a posting on Catasailor I foresaw this development. Anyway I do believe that there is room to go futher down: may be even under 59.0 when the latest new things actually under testing in the US will be fully exploited.

At the Performance Midwinters, we seemed to have no problem with doing well against all of the other boats, except for the really well sailed Inter 20s.
We sailed really heavy, were not paying attention to the Portsmouth standings, and we still felt we were learning the boat on a steep learning curve. I know the 18HT platform can go quite a bit faster.

Cool! Lets see how low we can get it!
This is great - most classes complain about a low handicap, we take it as confirmation of how quick out boats are relative to the others.
