Hello all, finally the Notice of Race for the 2004 LAC has been released. The regatta will be held on Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans from October 18 to October 23, 2004. Registration fee: USD 1,000. For more info see : www.southernyachtclub.org/regattas/2004/icct.htmIt would be great to have a place on this website where challengers, class members or simply interested catsailors may share their opinion on the matter Doug, may you arrange something? An invitation to the friends of the newly constituted 18HT class: what about a Swiss challenge to the LAC after Alinghi?

Doug,
sorry to urge you, but if we want the 2004 LAC to succeed we need a good web page on this web site. The guys of the Southern Yacht Club do not seem able to promote the Event on the sailing press.

Bill,
Italy will be represented by Daniele Saragoni and Teo di Battista and Galbucci/Cavallone (nickname). With regard to other European challengers, I was unable so far to estabilish a real link with the organizers in order to promote adequately the event on the European sailing press. Anyway I hope to persuade one or two more challengers from Switzerland and Germany. No info about John Pierce and his Stealth

Ok I'll bite. How about the costs of such a challenge?
entry fee: 1000$ flight: 700$ per person charter boat, are there any and at what cost? a place to stay? others costs?
financialy, we can not make big steps, as we sail on a amateur basis.
please feel free to send us a email, if there is something you can offer. (a.lutz @ bst.ch) remove blanks

Andy,
be informed that BIMARE is ready to help any challenger, both European and not, by supplying a certain number of charter boats. These boats are already in the USA. BIMARE will provide them with new sails for the Event and take care of the replacement of any damaged part and of their set up and tuning with its own personnel. The charter fee is set at a very low level: EUR 1,000 or USD 1,250 (only to recover a part of the expenses). The charter fee will be collected directly by BIMARE from the European challengers and by BIMARE's representative at the LAC from not European Challengers. With regard to the accomodation, I am confident that the guys of the Southern Yacht Club will be able to host all the challengers or to find a cheap place for them to stay. Last year at Newport all the 3 Italian crews plus their comrades were hosted free of any charge by the LAC organizers. Therefore in all you have to consider a bill of USD 3,500/4,000 (EUR 3,000/3,000) for a sailing vacation of 10 days in the beautiful New Orleans, one of the nicest place of the US This may be a good argument to persuade yr girlfriend/wife. Please circulate the info among yr fellow Swiss and German 18HT class members. It would be great for the International 18HT class to have yr contries represented at the LAC Good luck! For any further question feel free to contact me
