The turn out at the Volkswagon Newport regatta was good, so let's try to top it at the Unlimited. Bob and myself are planning to be there, so how about you? What about the Chicago guys?
Meanwhile, there is a regatta in Hampton, Va (just north of Va Beach) on 8/7&8 which could be promising. Bouy racing on Saturday and a medium distance race on Sunday is the plan. The venue is probably the best in the southern Bay for cats. Any takers?
I will be out of town for most of the week and hard to reach, but will check this site for interest.

OK, so the talk is that we might be ditching the unlimited for the catfight. Who is in favor of which race?
I cant go to Michigan. I would like to sail in Newport.
Peter is sailing his Acat in the unlimited and Hunt and Kris have a wedding. So the Newport fleet is down 2, but Mello's boat is ready to sail. should be ready to sail by then.
Also, please chime in on the winter schedule.

I am interested in sailing in Michigan. I haven't expressed this before, but I am concerned that the HT fleet is not sailing in open regattas. How are we ever going to significantly grow the class if we never sail in regattas where other catamaran sailors can see the speed and advantages of our boats? While I like sailing one design, I also like competing with many of my friends on other boats. I guess that I have spent most of my sailing time in open races, and I am use to the idea of timed results. Regardless, I think that this is an issue that should be addressed before we develop next year's schedule. Chris

I think Chris has a good point, we shouldnt forget about the open Cat regattas. If we can show that we can hang with the 20ft boats and beat them, I think that would turn some heads.
Plus the top teams in our class are getting faster with the new spins and more time on the boat. I would be interested to see how the HT does in the Open class this year.
Both the Cat fight and the unlimited are open events. While it makes sense to have a strong showing at an event, it looks like the fleet will be divided in August. Part of the group seems to be leaning towards Michigan and part towards Newport. We should try to have 6-8 boats at the catfight and the unlimited.
WF is advocating a winter coaching session. I think this is a good idea, but lets not just limit it to the winter schedule. What about a Newport training session? 2 to 3 days of sailing and tuning with a coach or coaches.
Interested?
Also, what about the North American's? Dont forget that the HT class is an Alter Cup qualifier class.
