NOTICE OF RACE
RIMINI, ITALY
May 26 – June 1, 2005
1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The Organizing Authority (OA) will be BluRimini Srl. in cooperation with Vela Viva Sailing Club and Bimare.
2 VENUE
The venue will be the waters of Rimini, in front of the Marina di Rimini, Via Ortigara 78/80 – 47900 Rimini - Italy.
3 EVENT GRADING
This grading is subject to review by the ISAF Match Race Advisory Board. The event may be re-graded when there is clear reason to do so.
4 PROVISIONAL PROGRAM
4.1 Schedule:
a) Practice prior to the event shall be scheduled by the OA.
b) Registration shall be from 0830 to 0900 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2005.
c) A first briefing shall be at 0930 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2005.
d) A first meeting with umpires shall be immediately following the first briefing.
e) Elimination Series racing days shall be from May 26, 2005 to May 28, 2005 with May 29, 2005 as a spare day.
f) Trophy Match racing days shall be May 30 & May 31 with June 1 as a spare day.
g) The time of the first race each day shall be 1000 AM.
h) The daily press conference shall be after the last race of each day.
i) The Eliminations Series prize giving will be at the Elimination Series Cocktail Party and Buffet Dinner on Saturday, May 28, 2005.
j) The Trophy Match prize giving will be after racing on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 unless the June 1 is required for racing.
4.2 Unless excused by the OA, attendance at the following is mandatory:
a) Initial briefing for teams.
b) Daily press conferences, for teams sailing that day.
c) Eliminations Series Cocktail Party and Buffet dinner, for teams.
d) Prize giving Dinner for the Trophy Match, for teams.
5 CREW ELIGIBILITY
a) There will be a maximum of 10 Challenger (non-US teams) and 10 Defender (US teams) teams. Of the 10 Challengers, at least 6 will qualify according to the results from the 2005 18HT World Cup to be held in Bellaria-Igea Marina, Italy, May 21 to May 25, 2005, while the remaining shall be selected by strength of resume by the OA and the ICCT Trustees. The current holder of the Trophy automatically qualifies as a Defender; all other defenders will be selected by strength of resume.
b) All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of ISAF Regulation 19, Eligibility Code.
c) Italian competitors shall comply with FIV Eligibility Rules (FIV card with medical stamp).
d) Competitors are not required to be members of the International 18HT Class Association
6 ENTRIES
6.1 All entries (either as Challenger or as Defender) shall be made in writing and may be delivered to BluRimini Srl by facsimile to 0039 0541 392744 or by Email to sail@in.co.it prior to May 1, 2005 and confirmed by ordinary mail to BluRimini Srl, Via Flaminia 82/a - 47900 Rimini Italy.
6.2 A team shall be entered on submission of all forms, payment of all fees and acceptance of the entry by the ICCT Trustees. See the Entry Protocol at icct.seacliffyc.org for the list of required forms. The decision of the ICCT Trustees to accept or reject an entry shall be final and not subject to protest or appeal.
6.3 Entry Fee:
a) The entry fee is set at 300 Euros. The entry fee will be refunded when an entrant is either not accepted by resume or fails to qualify at the 18HT Worlds.
b) Payment shall be either by check made payable to Vela Viva and mailed to Vela Viva c/o Marina di Rimini, Via Ortigara 78/80 – 47900 Rimini (Italy) or by wire transfer in favour of Vela Viva, Account 00700009541-7 with Emil Banca Credito Cooperativo, Ponte Ronca branch - 40069 (BO) – Italy

6.4 Responsibility for Damage:
Teams shall be held responsible for any damage caused to boats, equipment and sails.
7 RULES
The event will be governed:
a) The rules as defined in the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) including Appendix C.
b) The International Catamaran Challenge Trophy Deed of Gift as Amended Effective December 4, 2004.
c) The national authority prescriptions will not apply.
d) The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration. In the event of conflict between the Rules as described in this Section (7) and the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions will take precedence.
e) An International Jury will be appointed, approved by the National Authority, in accordance with RRS appendix M.
f) Rules for handling of boats will be outlined in the Sailing Instructions.
8 BOATS, EQUIPMENT & SAILS
a) The event will be sailed in 18HT Catamaran Class boats provided by the OA.
b) Equipment & sails will be provided for each boat by the OA except for personal items such as clothing, trapeze harnesses and personal flotation that will be provided by the competitors.
c) Boats will be allocated by draw to each team competing prior to the beginning of the Elimination Series and remain assigned to the same team until the elimination series is completed. The finalists shall select the boat they wish to sail in the Trophy Match.
9 CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER)
a) The number of crew (including the skipper) shall be 2.
10 EVENT FORMAT
a) Entrants shall be divided into Challenger (non-US) and Defender (US) Groups.
b) The event will consist of the following series:
Elimination Series – A double round-robin (Challenger and Defender Groups separate), time permitting. The top scoring Challenger and Defender advance to the Trophy Match.
Trophy Match – Winners of the Elimination Series compete for the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy, also known as the Little America’s Cup. The first to score 4 points is the winner.
c) The OA may change the schedule or the format when conditions do not permit the completion of the intended format.
11 COURSE
a) The course will be windward/leeward with optional offset legs in the event of cross course current, resulting in either port or starboard roundings and finishing downwind.
b) The intended course area will be the area in front of the Marina di Rimini.
12 ADVERTISING
a) As boats, equipment and sails will be supplied by the OA, RRS Appendix 1, Regulation 20.3.3 applies. Each boat shall therefore display advertising supplied by the OA on hulls and sails.
b) Competitors will be permitted to display advertising ashore at the venue and on their own clothing, subject to the approval of the OA.
c) Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1).
13 PRIZES
· The winner of the Trophy Match shall be awarded the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy including a “keeper” trophy.
· All competing teams shall be awarded a participation plate.
14 ECONOMICAL SUPPORTS TO THE TEAMS OFFERED BY THE SPONSOR
a) There will be cash economical supports at least to the two teams competing for the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy. However the OA is striving to gather more funding from sponsors in order to increase/extend the amount and the number of supports provided. This will be subject of further communications. The economical support shall not be lower than 10.000 Euros for the winner and 5.000 Euros for the defeated team.
b) The OA will provide boarding and lodging to all the Defenders (US teams) accepted by the ICCT Trustees.
15 MEDIA, IMAGES AND SOUND
The OA may require video equipment to be carried on board while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews. The OA shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge.
16 COACH BOATS
a) Coach boats shall remain outside of the racing area as defined in the Sailing Instructions and shall not communicate with the competing boat while they are racing.
b) Any interference by a coach boat with the racing or event organization may result in a penalty applied at the discretion of the International Jury.
17 NATIONAL REPRESENTATION
a) Each team is requested to provide a national flag for display at the venue.
b) Each team is requested to provide their national anthem on cassette tape.
18 OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
The official language for this regatta for all interpretation and construction of the Rules, Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, and any other official notices, shall be English.
19 DISCLAIMER
All those taking part in the event do so at their own risk. The OA, BluRimini,Srl, Vela Viva Sailing Club, Bimare, The Sea Cliff Yacht Club Ltd., the ICCT Trustees, Marina di Rimini, their employees, agents, associates, volunteers, sponsors, appointees, including, but not limited to, the Principal Race Officer, Race Committee members, jurors and umpires, shall not accept the responsibility, nor be liable for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience incurred, to persons or property, both ashore and at sea, as a consequence of participation, in any way, in the event covered by this Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, and any other document appertaining thereto.
