I am settled back in my room, overlooking Norfolk, Virginia's harbor reflecting on a wonderful day on the water.
I visited WF at his bayside home today to check out the Javelin 2 and grab a test ride. Things were busy at the Oliver home. W.F. and a helper were busy assembling what he said was the F-18HT classes' new 6-boat trailer and painting a couple of mast.
I was assigned the task of raising the Javelin 2's mast and was amazed how easily I could manage the feat. The carbon fiber mast is really a plus. Next, W.F. and I set up the boat and he went over each line, block, and piece of rigging with me.
Next, we rolled the boat across the beach and into the water. I REALLY like the ease with which this boat is moved around the beach. It is LIGHT. After just a few minutes of sailing around, W.F. gave me the helm. We did not have anything to compare against when sailing upwind, however a speedboat shadowed us downwind and said we where doing over 20 Knts. 20 Knts in 10 Knts of wind is amazing.
Unfortunately, both WF and myself had other matters to take care of, so we headed back to the beach. In 25 minutes, the boat was back in his yard and trailer ready. Did I mention how easy it went up the beach?
Thank you, WF for the great day.
