Hello all, I spoke to WF on Friday and he is sending me the paper work to purchase one of the boats coming in August. I have been sailing all my life starting with Sunfish when I was a kid and then onto a 40ft Pearson later in life. 2yrs ago I decided I wanted a fast boat that I could trailer. I bought a Lazer Cat (Dart 16). I am addicted to cats and I have outgrown the Dart. The Jav2 sounds like the perfect next boat. From what I understand it is a fast 2 person cat, points well, able to be sailed solo and I like the uni-rig and chute setup. Fast, easy to right, light weight, 1 or 2 person, sounds perfect. I would be interested in feedback from those that own the boat. I am interested in the following and would appreciated any feedback that you can offer. (I would also love to go for a sail between now and August How does the Jav2 sail in 15-25knots and a 2-4 foot chop? Add in a 4 ft swell, and does the boat handle this type of conditions? Whats the ideal crew weight? One of my crew is 240-250. Is this too heavy, should I order a bigger main? I am 200lbs and would like to sail solo in 20kts. Do I need a smaller main also? Hows the durability? How long does it take to rig? Whats the distance between the hulls? (I would like to use the trailer that I already own and I am wondering if it will fit between the wheels.) Anybody interested in a used Dart 16 in excellent condition? I look foward to meeting all of you and thanks for the input. Bill Vining

Bill,
I am sure that the other two Jav 2 owners in your area, Peter Cogan and Hunt Stookey, will be thrilled to hear that you have joined the fleet. These are exciting times for catamaran sailing. Lightweight boats are seizing the momentum. The F-18HT class is on the forefront of this wave and its members are committed to making their class the best in the sport.
I have sailed the Jav 2 off of Va Beach in some 20 ktn stuff with 3-5 foot waves/chop. The boat handles very well in this stuff, however the beam does occasionally strike the waves like it does on the Inter 20s. In 25 knts, I think that a smaller sail would be faster. I plan to get a smaller sail for my Jav 2 to singlehand and sail in higher winds.
As far as optimimum crew weight, I have no idea. Guesses range from 315-360 lbs, from what I have heard. I personally think that the crew weight that I plan to sail at (355lbs) feels very good.
The minimum distance between the hulls is 68" and the distance from hull centerline to centerline is 82", so I hope this helps with the trailer. Peter and WF are working on a discount purchase of Trailex trailer, so I would contact them.

Just wanted to say its great to have another boat in Southern New England. Peter Cogan is in Darien, and Kris and I are in Jamestown RI. Where in CT are you?
Can't help on any of your questions bc. we don't get our boat for another month.
