I have not had the pleasure of sailing the Jav 2 yet. But, I am interested in the boat. I was just talking to Bill Roberts about sailboats and he made a comment about reaching without a jib.
Question -- How quick is the Jav 2 on a beam reach?
How different is the boat's handling as opposed to a I20 or N6.0 na?
Thanks in advance Steve

Steve,
Ihink that the Jav 2 will approach the I-20's performance on a close reach. It seems to be faster than the other 18 footers on this point of sail, at least the ones I've lined up against.
As time goes on and more F-18HTs and Jav2s get out on the race course more will be discovered about their relative performance. I do feel very happy with the boat in all conditions in which I have sailed it.
Perhaps, Randy Smyth would be a good person to ask about the close reaching abilites of the Jav 2, as we sailed the Jav2/F-18HT with I-20s, a RC 27 and the RC30 on a close reach for a while in the Mug Race.
Good luck with your projects! Keep me posted.

Brian and I passed a 6.0 on a beam reach (maybe a little higher than a beam reach) last weekend. The boat is slow in the area below a beam reach, but to high to carry the chute. When I say slow, I mean you don't want to be in a jib reaching battle with a 6.0. But you smoke them on every other point of sail.
